Lesson 7 of 7

Add backups and arrays

10 min Company administrator Updated
Objective

Know which machines are really protected, and see what happens behind your datastores.

Backups

A backup connector does not import an inventory: it matches protection to each machine already collected. It goes through the same collector, read-only.

  1. On Settings › Integration, click a tile under Connect a backup management solution.
  2. Choose the solution, the collector, a name and the address.
  3. Enter a read-only account, and confirm.

Xen Orchestra and Nutanix report their protection through their own source: nothing more to declare.

Storage arrays

The hypervisor stops at the datastore. Reading the array shows what lies behind it: a pool filling up before the datastore, LUNs presented to no one, a backup kept on the same array as what it protects.

Naoshift reads the array read-only, from your network, through the same collector: NetApp ONTAP, Dell PowerStore, Pure Storage FlashArray, Huawei OceanStor and others. Connecting an array is not part of the free plan. Arrays detected from your hypervisors stay visible on every plan.

This lesson is optional: skip it if you have neither to connect for now.

If you get stuck

A backed-up machine shows as unprotected

Matching uses the machine identifier, not its name. The machine must be collected by a source of the same scope as the backup.

Array protection is not counted as a backup

That is deliberate. Array snapshots and replication are shown separately: a copy in the same place does not replace a backup.
